Let Them In

Happiness had been knocking for a long time,
but the door always remained closed.

Now the feeling is folded on its knees scratching on the wood,
all hopes of discovery gone.

Sadness had won,
laughing through the window at its brother’s skeleton.

A single ray of sun danced on Happiness’ face.
Hope was there.

A single leaf fell to its feet.
Growth was there.

With a soft giggle a breeze blew through Happiness’ hair.
Love had joined them.

Life returned to Happiness’ body.

Sadness turned silent as it watched its brother stand tall nurtured by love, hope and growth.

Happiness smiled and knocked on the door.
