The Soul Family

Tomorrow is a very important day. It’s my best friend’s birthday. It’s more important than my own birthday and Christmas together because it’s a day that I celebrate that this wonderful person was born. Inspired by this, I thought I’d write about the people that make our lives so much better.

I often call them my ‘soul family’ because even though we are not related by blood, they are my family, if they want to or not.

They have qualities and characteristics that I value and respect immensely. They make me question the status quo, inspire me on a daily basis or drive me to try new things. It’s those people that make you feel whole even if your world may be crumbling. They keep you grounded when your mind threatens to float away on a cloud of wild thoughts.

These souls are very hard to find and they don’t always stay around for a long time. They may just pop up out of nowhere to give you a shove in the right direction and then disappear to never be seen again. Or they might stay in your life forever and make your world even more colourful.

My soul family is changing every few months, some people are leaving and some are just settling in, but all in all it just keeps growing and I grow with them as they show me new perspectives in this crazy world of ours.

They come in all shapes and ages, they share their wisdom with you as you share yours with them, and whenever you are around them you feel at ease.

They can appear everywhere, next to you in school, your new job, they might be your flatmates or maybe even your worst enemy who made you question everything for a while.

No matter who they are or where they came from, they have an important role to play in your life and you have a significant part in theirs.

You might not always be in touch with them but when you do make that call or write that message or even manage to meet them; it is like nothing has changed because you are connected on a higher level and that is not destroyed by distance or quietness.

You have a silent understanding and trust. It’s an indescribable bond that makes you feel incredibly proud and happy to have that person in your life. If you haven’t told them, let them know. If it has been a while that you spoke to them, give them a call and let them know how important they are to you and that you value them.

Whatever it may be, your tribe, your soul family or your ‘squad’, appreciate and love those people because they make your world a better place and you make theirs better as well.

Thank you to my soul family.  I love you very much.
